Vita
Max Mehring is a descendent of an ancient family of artists. His father was a professional artist who taught painting, graphic art and art history at the local university.
"Our house was full of pictures," recalls Mehring, whose father gave him the early love for drawing and painting. Already during school Max attended art classes for graphics and painting.
After school he absolved a four-year training, and a master course at the Art School completed the training.
But the road did not lead straight to art as a profession. The artist, who was also interested in literature and German culture, got, not least through his military service rendered in Weimar an impulse to study german language and literature. He studied germanistik and education and graduated with a diploma as a foreign language teacher.
When he showed an art professor friend of him from St. Petersburg, his new hometown of Trier, and when they together outlined and painted different houses, the inspiration came to again follow the artistic path.
A short time later Max Mehring came to know Gerd Madert, the merchant and his wife, Uschi. Both were impressed by the sketches and studies, which the artist had painted of Trier.
Convinced of the ability of the painter, they generously rebuilt in 1998 the farm house of their parents in Mehring into a painting studio with an exhibition space.
The Art-Trade Uschi Madert markets exclusively the original paintings by Max Mehring, makes contacts with galleries and gives the artist for more than a decade, the economic security, which enables his professional painting.
Max Mehring can not easily be classified stylistically - he is enthusiastic about modern painting and admiring the old impressionists. He is a disciplined craftsman and imaginative interpreter at the same time. He captures his subject with the analytical eye of a graphic artist and by using acrylic colors dissolves all kinds of lineation again. Unique and often admired is his extraordinary collage technique with which he creates inimitable paintings by use of a vast range of materials.
My art
I am often asked: "What is the message of your works?"
What can I say!
It would be rather unwise and almost impossible to interpret my own works ...
Today you have seen a dream.
How would you interpret it?
What was its message?
A dream reflects the inner spiritual work, often over a longer period.
It often makes no sense to explain each image in a logical manner.
The art is the domain of the irrational.
The time
According to tradition, the time has a special property, which is connected in a complicated manner with eternity. The prophets see what was, what is and what will be.
For us human beings time opens as a consistent motion, with the events of history unfolding in a consistent order. Exceptional individuals can develop very different relationships with time.
They experience eternity as a fact. The claim - there is only one ephemeral moment between the past and future, the experience of a presence and everything else would be only a self-deception - is wrong.
The past does not disappear without a trace. Behind our backs, we feel its hot breath, it catches up constantly, flows into and through us further into the future.
Ships
The ships symbolize a kind of adventure, an expedition with the ship of life into the unknown, into the open sea of life, crossing over the waters of death. In this context, the vessels resemble a bridge that allows us to cross the border between the worlds. The desert is a transcendent symbol. The place of exile, loneliness, purification.
The state after Dissolation, as the place outside of time and space. There is the crucial point, from where there is only Either - Or. One now has the opportunity to radically change the reality and to channel the flow of time into a new orbit.
Colors
As it says in the Bible: "Oh, if thou were cold or hot! But you are neither cold nor hot. "
Red is a hot, fiery color, it excites and is the feeling of warmth and joy. Power and blood – is its main literal meaning and also role as a magical means.
The mystical ideas of the people and color symbolism have always been closely together. The symbolism of the color blue - the blue of the sky. The associated meanings are - the mysticism, the mystery, the sacredness, the nobility and purity. The light blue color creates the feeling of freshness and tranquility, it extends the space and stimulates thinking. "
For me personally, these colors are important as a contrast, as the dialectical pair of fire and water, action and reflection, pragmatism and the sacred, passion and responsibility.
The "fire zone", for example can mean a certain limit, which one should overcome to find the right way, a kind of test. Perhaps it is the purgatory or just a deserted and still intact nuclear reactor.
Fire and water - the idea of purity and renewal.
